Whistler Train Wreck
One of the most unique free attractions on the Sea to Sky corridor — and one that tends to surprise first-time visitors. A series of old freight cars derailed here in the 1950s and were left to rust in the forest. Over the decades they’ve been transformed into a stunning open-air art gallery, covered from end to end in colourful, ever-changing graffiti murals by artists from around the world. The suspension bridge over the Cheakamus River on the way in is pretty spectacular too.
The trail is short and relatively flat, making it accessible for most fitness levels, and the whole visit takes around an hour at a relaxed pace. It’s a great one to combine with a visit to Function Junction — grab a coffee at Purebread, dump your tanks, and walk the Train Wreck trail all in the same stop.
RV Parking: Free gravel parking lot directly off Jane Lakes Road at the trailhead — no size restrictions noted, suitable for most rigs. To get there: heading south on Highway 99 from Whistler Village, turn left onto Cheakamus Lake Road, then right onto Jane Lakes Road. The parking area is on the right. The trailhead can be easy to miss — walk back down the road from the lot and look for the marker just past the Forest Service Road entrance.
Hours: Open year-round, dawn to dusk. Trail is approximately 1km each way.
Cost: Free
