Whistler rv campground

Squamish is one of the most popular stops along the Sea-to-Sky Highway and a fantastic stop for a vacation or road trip. However, RV parking can be confusing, if you don’t know the local rules.

This guide covers the ins and outs of RV-friendly parking in Squamish, including grocery stores, attractions and overnight stays.

Can you street park in Squamish?

Free street parking is available throughout most of Squamish, including downtown and some residential areas.

If you are travelling in a larger rig, it’s often easier to park further from the town centre where streets are wider and not restricted by marked parking bays.

Some areas offer unlimited parking whereas others, particularly near to

amenities and downtown, are restricted to 2 hours. Always check the signage before leaving your rig.

That being said, overnight camping (sleeping in your vehicle) on street parking is not permitted in Squamish.

The District of Squamish actively enforces parking bylaws, and overnight camping in public parking lots or residential streets can result in fines.

If you’re staying overnight, you’ll need a designated RV campground or parking on private land (where camping is allowed).

What About Walmart?

Some RV travellers report that Walmart in Squamish has historically allowed short term overnight stays at no cost.

However, policies can change at any time and are at the discretion of store management.

If you plan to stop overnight at Walmart, always:

  • Be mindful this is a short term option (1 night maximum)
  • Arrive late and leave early (before the store opens in the morning)
  • Park respectfully away from entrances
  • Keep within your RV e.g. no fires or setting up camp in the parking lot!

Never assume parking is guaranteed.
